First video games came out in late 1950s and were played on an old CRT television. Nowadays, we have gimmicks people back then could never dream of. These days, games tend to offer as much realism as possible, which is often enhanced with virtual reality. To learn more, check out our newest article!
The end of the year brought several pieces of news in the gaming industry. Down below, you can read about five of them we chose as the most interesting ones.
Epic Games’ Fortnite has been updated for the current generation of consoles as well for pc and now runs on Unreal Engine 5.1. The new engine brings new graphical improvements represented by features such as lumen, nanite, or temporal super resolution that allows you to choose a graphical mode to your own liking. The fan-favorite battle royale game is in its sixth year and is bigger than ever, as it is played by approximately three million concurrent players.
Grand Theft Auto V on current gen consoles now supports ray-traced reflections on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The new feature is available in the game’s fidelity mode, running at 30FPS, which adds realistic detail to vehicles, characters, or windows. Check out a video comparing the game with and without ray-tracing enabled here.
Naughty Dog is allegedly working on The Last of Us Part III, as it is reportedly in production. It should come right after Fractions, the multiplayer game from the The Last of Us universe which is to be released some time this year. The sequel to the second The Last of Us could then arrive in 2025, so not anytime soon.
Dead Space Remake has gone gold, so there is nothing that will stop the game from releasing on January 27th. The remake will feature new lightning system which can refract light differently depending on the surface. Also, the game will be presented in a single, uninterrupted shot so in the remake, players will be even more immersed in the horror.
From Software’s Elden Ring has won the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2022, beating its biggest rival God of War Ragnarok. The latter though won the most awards (6) such as Best Narrative or Best Performance that was given to Christopher Judge for his role as Kratos.
The gaming industry has been growing rapidly in the past years. The statistic below shows the expected growth up to 2025. In comparison with last year, the prediction says it could be increased by up to 35 %, from approximately 197 billion to 269 billion dollars.
Unlike the statistic, the chart below shows only 2022, namely the share of the games market revenue worldwide by region. As you can see, almost half of it was represented by the Asia-Pacific region, followed by Northern America (26 %) and Europe (17 %).

On December 9th, the annual event Game Awards was held. The Game of the Year award was awarded to Elden Ring, closely followed by Sony’s God of War Ragnarok. The winner was, for some, not very surprising, as Jason Schreier tweeted: “Of course it’s Elden Ring. It was always Elden Ring.”
Microsoft Flight Simulator came out in August, 2020. Since then, over ten million players tried it out.
Released in 2009, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is an action-adventure third person game developed by Naughty Dog. It is set two years after the events of Drake’s Fortune (2007) and it follows the story of Nathan Drake and his fellow companions as they search for the Cintamani Stone Shambhala.
